What to Know for the August 11 Primary

With the Connecticut Primary Day approaching on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Torrington Democratic Town Committee wants every voter to be prepared and know exactly where to go.

This year, Torrington Democrats have two primary races on the ballot: Governor for all voters, plus Representative if you live in Congressional District 1.

Whether you plan to vote early or at the polls on Primary Day, here is your complete guide to making your voice heard.

Polling Location Change for District 6

If you are a District 6 voter, please note a change to your polling location:

  • Old Location: The Armory

  • NEW Location: Vogel-Wetmore School, located at 68 Church Street

Not sure which district you’re in? You can easily find your designated polling place by checking online with the Torrington Registrar’s Office or at MyVote.CT.gov.

Primary Early Voting (August 3–9)

Connecticut’s early voting process is now easier and more seamless than ever. This year, early voting across CT will feel exactly like Election Day—there are no more early voting envelopes required. You’ll insert your ballot directly into the tabulator just like you would on Primary Day.

Early voting takes place exclusively at Torrington City Hall (140 Main St). Hours vary by day:

  • Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun (Aug 3, 5, 7, 8, 9): 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • Tue & Thu (Aug 4 & 6): 8:00 am – 8:00 pm

Voting on Primary Day (Tuesday, August 11)

If you plan to vote on Primary Day, polls will be open from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. You must vote at your designated neighborhood polling location.

Torrington Polling Places:

  • District 1: Intermediate School (former Middle School), 200 Middle School Dr.

Unaffiliated Voters: How to Participate

Connecticut holds closed primaries, meaning residents who aren’t registered with a political party cannot vote. But, if you’re currently unaffiliated, you can still participate by enrolling in a party:

  • To vote Early: You must enroll with your chosen party by 12:00 pm the day before you plan to cast your early ballot.

  • To vote on Primary Day: You must enroll with a party by 12:00 pm on Monday, August 10 (the day before the primary).

How to Register or Update Your Enrollment:

  1. Online: Visit MyVote.CT.gov or portal.ct.gov

  2. By Mail: Send a completed voter registration card to City Hall.

  3. In Person: Visit the Registrar of Voters office on the 2nd Floor of Torrington City Hall.
