Name: Tamara Christensen
Education: After graduating from St. Paul Catholic High School in 1986, Tamara received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Hartford in 1990 and her certificate and license in Medical Technology in 1991. As a life-long learner, she's taken classes in website design, biology, accounting, and library science as well as attended many conferences.
Career: Tamara worked as a Senior Medical Technologist at DIANON Systems in Stratford, CT for 7 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom to raise her three daughters. She worked part-time for 10 years at the Burlington Public Library and was a home-based small business owner prior to returning to full-time work in 2016 at KidsPlay Children’s Museum. As the Business Director at the Museum, she is responsible for the finances and also oversees marketing and database activities.
Volunteering: Tamara believes very strongly that volunteering is very important for community and connections. She has volunteered as the newsletter editor for the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society, as a Girl Scout leader, as the secretary of the PTA and co-chair of the Scholastic Book Fair, and served on the board and as vice-president of her local land trust for many years. She currently volunteers as an usher at the Warner Theatre and at local events in the community.
About Torrington: As a resident of Downtown Torrington, Tamara lives under a mile from where she was born! She loves the flowers at Coe Park, the sunset from Franklin Plaza, and walking through the Hotchkiss-Fyler Gardens at the Historical Society at lunch. She is running for office to be more involved in the city by learning about and sharing all Torrington has to offer for residents of all ages.
